Montessori programs place great emphasis on Sensorial
activities in the toddler classroom. Sensorial activities challenge the young
child in many ways such as to match objects by size, shape, color, texture, or
to solve simple puzzles. Toddlers enjoy sensorial exploration and are exposed
such elements as water, sand, dirt, clay, textured objects, as well as the
smell of flowers and food. Much like the infant, discriminating between size,
color, and sound are part of the sensorial experience for the toddler.
