Music is provided in many ways throughout the day. We sing
with the group but also individually with just one or two children. Music is
not limited to a certain time of the day. Because toddlers are still learning
language skills, they enjoy simply finger plays, rhymes, and melodies in which
they can move to music as well as absorb the words. We do not expect toddlers
to sit as a group for a long period; therefore circle times are limited to
about 20 minutes- unless otherwise indicated by the children.
Certain songs often signal a transition in the schedule. And
very soft, calm, music is often played throughout the work cycle which aids in
the relaxed feeling of the Toddler environment. A lullaby-type CD is always
played naptime to help calm the children while they are settling down and
getting their backs rubbed.
